calvary victoria - simplicity

Calvary Victoria is a church with an emphasis on the Word of God and the grace of God. We just come as we are, with open hearts. We rejoice in our diversity... seriously! We are a body, a family, of unique individuals brought close to one another by the blood of Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord.

We teach through the whole Bible, book by book, chapter by chapter, and verse by verse, explaining and applying it to our lives. Some have called our Sunday morning services “Bible Studies”, because, well, that is what we do. Instead of sitting through a 20 minute sermon, expect to be taught the meaning and application of a text of scripture in no less than an hour. After a few times, you develop an appetite for it.

Our worship is simple and joyful. We keep it focused on Jesus, and not on the worship leader or the music style, although we do have a gifted set of musicians that serve. The atmosphere at Calvary is genuine.  We like to break for ten or fifteen minutes between worship and teaching for a time of fellowship.  Coffee or tea in hand, the whole church talks with one another, sharing and listening to each other’s stories and experiences.

Our children’s ministry is a large focus, and many families are involved in serving in this vital ministry.  Right now we are using Answers in Genesis curriculum which teaches children important foundational truths and concepts, such as the infallibility of God’s Word, Scripture memorization, and Inductive Bible Study. We desire to raise up a generation of kids founded and grounded in the Word of God!

While Sundays are a highlight of each week, it has been said that it is only the tip of the iceberg. Discipleship is a passion, as much as it is a priority, at Calvary Victoria.  We take our cue from Paul's words to Timothy, "And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." (2 Tim. 2:2). The pattern we find in the Word of God is of disciples making disciples, who in turn can make disciple making disciples. Its a simple plan, but it's God's plan... (so it works!)... and we are simply following it.
